Jô has proven to be a skillful, strong and pacey striker and has proceeded to score 14 goals in his first 18 appearances for the Russian club, securing his status as a fan-favourite. He also impressed in the UEFA Champions League scoring two goals in the matches against Inter Milan.
On March 08, according to Russian Newspaper Peterburgsky Metropoliten it stated English club Arsenal F.C. are reportedly looking to secure the services of Brazilian wonder kid Jô. It claimed Arsenal scouts were watching him against Inter Milan where he scored two goals.
On March 17, 2008, Tuttosport linked the young Brazilian to Italian giants, AC Milan. The 7-time European Champions are looking to revitalize their aging team this summer.
On April 21, 2008, British newspaper, The Guardian, reported that Jô would be transferred in the summer to Manchester City. However, the club are both yet to confirm the truth in this story. If indeed Manchester City buy Jô, he would be the most expensive player ever bought from the Russian Premier League, at an estimated fee of £20 million. On June 5th, newly-appointed City executive chairman Garry Cook stated, "We have had a conversation with Mark Hughes about this because we wanted to see what he felt but it would be fair to say we expect to see Jo at Manchester City."
Early this June, a report from ESPN Soccernet stated that both Jô and Ronaldinho were Manchester City summer targets, and the signature of Jô shall be received within the month. Ronaldinho has agreed to general terms with City as well, and they might yet complete the signing of the Brazilian duo.
[edit] International career
Being still young he received his first call-up to the Seleção in May 2007 to be in the squad to play against England later in the year and made his international debut in friendly against Turkey, in June 2007.
