Józef Batory

Captain Józef Batory (noms de guerre “Argus”, “Wojtek”) was born in 1914 in unknown location. He fought in the 1939 Polish September Campaign, then was active member of anti-German resistance. In early-1940s he became commandant of the Kolbuszowa district of the Home Army. After 1945 he became a leading member of the anti-Communist organization Wolnosc i Niezawislosc. Caught some time in late-1940s, he was executed in the evening of March 1, 1951 in the infamous Mokotow Prison in Warsaw. His body was buried in unknown location.
