[edit] "Jónsson family"

Quite a nice article, well done! I have just one nit to pick - I would prefer that people were referred to either by their names or by their names and patronymics but not exclusively by their patronymics. There are, of course, difficulties because there are three people named Jón, but still. I would also prefer to replace "the Jónsson family" with something like "the family of Jón Jónsson" or "Jón Jónsson and his children".

Out of curiosity, how did you become interested in this? Haukur (talk) 18:01, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. Naming presented quite a problem without getting confused (as you say, all those Jóns!). If you want to try your way of doing it then feel free to go ahead and make the changes. I first found out about this book when I read an article in French by Régis Boyer which mentioned it in passing. I've always been interested in the classic sagas but I knew nothing about Icelandic literature between the Middle Ages and the modern era so I got hold of the French translation of Magnússon. The Píslarsaga is quite an odd book, often much more reminiscent of the ghost stories of M.R.James than, say, Njal's Saga. Cheers. --Folantin (talk) 18:21, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Thank you, Boyer seems to be quite prolific. I'll see about the Wikipedia:Manual of Style (Iceland-related articles) thing. Haukur (talk) 19:25, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Article now "Jón"-ed per Icelandic naming conventions. Cheers. --Folantin (talk) 18:30, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Excellent! Thank you. Haukur (talk) 18:53, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
