Iz Teremka Kennel
Iz Teremka Kennel ia a Black Russian Terrier Kennel in Canada.
The founder of the kennel, Svetlana (Lana) Lochan was born in Anzero-Sudzensk Russia and was brought up in Novokutnesk, Siberia. When Lana was in Russia she happened to see her first Black Russian Terrier (BRT) when she was a teenager, however because of the housing situation, her parents did not want her to keep dogs.
In 1998 Lana visited Canada in July and received a proposal for marriage. She returned to Novokutnesk in September and she along with her two children returned to Canada in December 1998. On May 1st, 1999 she married.
Lana always had an inner love for dogs and her desire to have a dog was fullfilled when her husband took her to the local Humamne Society where she got her first dog, a Black Labrador Retriever. he was named Yoda by her husband Carlyle. Yoda was a very special dog who liked to be free. he was a very smart intelligent dog.
Lana's burning desire to get another dog was a secret and it was not until her husband mentioned to her that he was interested in getting another dog to keep company with Yoda. Her husband wanted to get a Chesapeake Bay Retriever and it was at this time Lana mentioned to her husband that there was this Russian dog that she was interested in. The dog was a Black Russian Terrier. At this time Lana did was not aware if the breed was available in Canada.
One day while visiting her in-laws in Burlingston ON, she happened by chance to be looking through the ads of the Toronto Star where she found an ad 'Black Russian Terriers For Sale". She immediately told her husband and a decision was make to go and see the BRT's.
When they arrived at the breeders home, a beautiful BRT named William Edward Dale greeted them. Her husband Carlyle was very impressed and told his wifw Lana that this a dog he wanted. The puppies were looked, Lana made a choice of puppy and a down payment 0f #200.00 was left with the breeder for pick up in two weeks time. This puppy was named Taras and was to become the foundation male stock of the soon to be named Iz Teremka Kennel.
Unknown to her husband, Lana's real desire was to own a Kennel. As the months passed by, Lana got interested in showing Taras at shows. Taras began to win titles and as Taras grew, his titles grew also.
Lana spoke to her husband about breeding Taras and it was at this time Lana mentioned to her husband that she wanted a Kennel. A kennel name was chosen, however the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) did not approve the first name because the phonetics sounded like another Kennel which already existed. Lana told her husband about a story that she had heard as a child called Iz Teremka and would like to call her Kennel Iz Teremka. The CKC approved this name and the Kennel was officially given status on August 2nd 2007.
Iz Teremka Kennel is located in Kingston ON Canada. The kennel per se is not where dogs are just stored and not looked after. The kennel is Lana's own home where the dogs live and are taken care by Lana and her husband. They are always in human contact and are walked and exercised two to three times away. The dogs are kept in good shape and are not obese. The BRTS are people oriented, they are socialized, taken for obedience classes and off course they are shown.
The foundation stock comprises of Taras Siberian Star, Kalinka's Top Model, Kalinka's Groosha Iz Teremka. In addition Iz Teremka has approximately 11 others BRT's in co-ownership.
Iz Teremka's main goal is dedicated to the breeding of Black Russian Terriers by developing and preserving the best qualities of the old working Siberian Black Russian Terrier bloodlines.
