iView Media
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
iView Media and iView MediaPro are commercial digital asset management (DAM) solutions for Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows operating systems, created by London-based iView Multimedia.
iView Multimedia was acquired by Microsoft on June 27, 2006 and renamed it to Microsoft Expression Media as part of its Microsoft Expression line of products.[1]
[edit] Asset management
Although iView is capable of importing photos and performing simple transformations, its primary use is on the back end, as a cataloging tool for managing digital media files. In a professional context, it is typically used in concert with an importer/browser (such as Photo Mechanic) and photo editing program (such as Adobe Photoshop).
[edit] Product differentiation
The "Media" and "MediaPro" products are very similar. The main distinction of interest to a professional photographer or editor is that the MediaPro product can understand a number of RAW image formats. The Pro version also allows the writing of metadata back to a number of file formats (jpeg, TIFF, PSD) as well as both Nikon NEF and Canon CR2 proprietary RAW file formats.
