After playing for Atalanta and Triestina from 1997 to 2000, he made his Serie A debut with Atalanta in 2000-2001 and gained consideration as one of the best young goalkeepers in Italy. In the following summer he was signed by 2001 Italian champions AS Roma, for €1.5 million, where he remained until 2005 with different luck. In 2005 he went to play for Reggina, and on January 31, 2007 he was bought by Lokomotiv Moscow FC, who signed him for 3 million Euros to a 4-year contract.
