[edit] College East's History
A plan to replace the 10 smaller ITE campuses into 3 colleges were to benefit the students if they were to take a course in ITE, they won't have to go to another campus to attend it. Another reason was to improve the image of ITE as a global leader in technical education as oppose to the "It's The End" acronym in the local views of Singaporeans. As for now, ITE College East is slowly getting popular for its courses that are available.
Before the college system was implemented, the campus was to be named "ITE Simei Regional Campus" due to the campus' vast size and projected intake as oppose to the other 10 smaller ITE campuses. In 2004, while the campus was still under construction, it was renamed ITE College East (Simei) under the new college system. Still, some signboards in the campus still bare the "ITE Simei Regional Campus" name.
The campus was built within 20 months at a cost of S$184.6 million.
