Italian National Time Trial Championship
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Italian National Time Trial Championship is a time trial race that is part of the Italian National Cycling Championship series, and decides the best cyclist in this type of race. The time trial race in Italy is not that old as it might be thought, especially when you take a look at the Italian National Road Race Championship, that took place for the first time back in 1885. The first winner was Massimiliano Lelli back in 1995. The next year the race wasn't held. When the time trial was present again in 1997, Dario Andriotto took the title. Marco Velo has the most wins with a record 3 in a row, but, interestingly, no other rider has won more than one title.
The most recent champion was Luca Ascani in 2007. However, his title is currently under review, as he tested positive for the doping substance, erythropoietin, or EPO, at doping controls following this year's time trial championship.
