Talk:It's Scotland's oil
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I seem to recall another survey coming to the conclusion that much of the North Sea oil might well be "English" rather than "Scottish"; if I can find it again it might be worth mentioning.
- It would be if the border was drawn at the same angle as the land border between England and Scotland, which runs from south-west to north-east (eg Berwick-upon-Tweed is further north than Ayr). The flaw in this argument is that sea borders are not drawn at the same angle as the land border, but are instead determined by which point of land is closest. Aberdeen is much closer to most of the oil fields than anywhere in England, therefore it is reasonably estimated that 90% of the oil would be Scottish.
