It's Me That You Need is a song by Elton John with lyrics written by Bernie Taupin. It was released as a single in Britain in 1969, and as a b-side to the US release of "Lady Samantha" in 1970. The song appeared on a number of bootleg albums and rarities compilations before it appeared on the 1995 remaster of his debut album, Empty Sky. It's b-side, "Just Like Strange Rain" also appeared on the remaster.
Musically, it carries the typical sound of Empty Sky, although it has a string section. A flute is also featured. It is basically a moody love song, with a calm theme. It's also very melodic, and the music could easily be inspired by the mid-60's Stevie Wonder.
Some releases lists the title as "It's Me (That You Need)". This song was a good hit in Italy, translated into Italian with the title "Era lei" ("That was her"), performed by Maurizio Vandelli, leader of the famous local group "Equipe 84".
