Ireland national field hockey team

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ireland national field hockey team is the team that represents Ireland in men's international field hockey tournaments. It represents the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Ireland has qualified for the Hockey World Cup twice, finishing 12th in 1978 and 1990.

At the 1908 Summer Olympics in London, Ireland finished in second place and the players were awarded silver medals. As Ireland had not achieved independence yet, these medals are credited to Great Britain. Ireland has not qualified for an Olympic Games as an independent country.

In the 2008 Olympic Qualifier event held in New Zealand, the Ireland team finished in fourth place. They missed out on a place in the Final after finishing level on points with Argentina and New Zealand. The team then lost the third place play-off game against France.[1]
