[edit] Termini
The northern terminus of Iowa Highway 76 is at the Minnesota border near Eitzen, Minnesota. The highway continues north in Minnesota as Minnesota State Highway 76. The official southern terminus is at U.S. Highway 18 west of McGregor, though the signed southern terminus is at U.S. 18 in Marquette.
[edit] Route description
Iowa Highway 76 begins at the Iowa line south of Eitzen, Minnesota where it enters the rather rugged, heavily forested valley of the Upper Iowa River, initially along its tributary, Waterloo Creek. It exits the valley into farmland until reaching the western side of the city of Waukon. It turns east to become Waukon West Main Street then turns south at Spring Street at the only traffic light in the county to join Highway 9 along Spring Street and Rossville Road. At the southern city limits of Waukon, it leaves Highway 9 and continues southeasterly into Effigy Mounds National Monument entering Clayton County and Marquette, where it travels at the surface under the highly elevated approach of the Marquette-Joliet Bridge carrying U.S. Highway 18. The highway continues to McGregor as Business U.S. 18 and turns west, defining the northern border of Pikes Peak State Park before terminating at U.S. 18.
