[edit] Route description
Iowa Highway 136 begins at the Lyons-Fulton Bridge at the Mississippi River in Clinton. It goes west and meets U.S. Highway 67, and they run together in Clinton. It leaves Clinton going west, then turns northwest toward Goose Lake. It continues west through Charlotte, then turns northwest through Delmar. West of Delmar and south of Maquoketa, it meets U.S. Highway 61. It continues west until shortly before Elwood, where it turns southwest to go through Elwood and Lost Nation. It goes west out of Lost Nation and turns northwest to go through Oxford Junction. At Oxford Junction, it turns north, and after a brief westerly routing, enters Wyoming, where it runs concurrent with Iowa Highway 64.
After leaving Iowa 64, Iowa 136 goes straight north through Onslow, then turns northeast briefly before going northwest through Cascade, where it intersects U.S. Highway 151. It continues northwest through Worthington, then turns north and meets U.S. Highway 20 at Dyersville. It goes north from Dyersville to New Vienna, then turns northeast towards Luxemburg and ends at an intersection with U.S. Highway 52 and Iowa Highway 3.
