Note that the Magnanime, Sampson and Diadem, which were previously shown as an allegedly separate Magnanime class, were actually units of this class, built to the same design. There was no separate Magnanime design; see correct class list of fifteen vessels recorded in David Lyon's Sailing Navy List and other books (including my own). This fact has been checked with Brian Lavery, whose otherwise admirable The Ship of the Line contains this error. Rif Winfield 12:43, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
