[edit] United Nations International Year of Planet Earth is in 2008

Hi - Please note that the correct year for UN International Year of Planet Earth is 2008 (and not 2007, as indicated by Wikipedia). It was originally proposed to have it in 2007, but the UN rather decided on 2008 for this observance, to coincide with two major international geoscientific conferences which will be taking place in 2008. The UNESCO document you noted is a recommendation. I also found that the year would be a triennium, United Nations International Year of Planet Earth 2007-2009. Yet the name is "Year" and not "Triennium". Brz7 21:08, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
As a matter of fact: 2007 - (International) Year of the Dolphin - (http://www.yod2007.org) by the United Nations and UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme). (The UN Convention on Migratory Species, together with its specialized agreements on dolphin conservation ACCOBAMS and ASCOBANS and the WDCS (Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society) have proposed 2007 as the Year of the Dolphin ('YOD')) - (Brabo 05:13, 1 January 2007 (UTC))

There were international year of before 59-60 for example the International Geophysical Year. Was this not part of the UN lot? I remeber that there was also an important year in 1954, can't remember what it was, but I remember adults around me arguing and saying how important it was - either oceans or Antarctica. I was always under the impression that the International Years of began with the establishment of the UN.D.Tzumli 11:36, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
