[edit] History
The company emerged from the NetConsult Communications GmbH which traded personal computers. Intershop was founded in 1992 by Stephan Schambach, Karsten Schneider, and Wilfried Beeck in Jena, Germany. They sold computers to the surrounding region.
In spring 1994 the first version of the intershop software was presented at the CeBIT. The catalog companies Otto-Versand and Hewlett-Packard became strategic partners. The first eCommerce platform for hardware went online.
In 1995 the Intershop software went online as one of the first e-commerce platforms worldwide. From 1998 to 2004 it was listed on the NASDAQ.
As of 2001, Intershop got into a serious crisis. In 2003 Stephan Schambach resigned from his post as CEO. Since 2007 until today (2008) Andreas Ridel is leading the company. It has only about 230 employees left.
