International Society for Microbial Ecology

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The International Society for Microbial Ecology (ISME) is the principle scientific society for the burgeoning field of Microbial Ecology and its related disciplines. ISME fosters the exchange of scientific information by organizing international symposia as well as specific workshops, sponsoring publications, and promoting education and research. ISME provides services to the scientific as well as the wider community. The ISME symposia, organized every two years, are the largest international meetings addressing the wide range of topics in Microbial Ecology.

The next meeting, ISME-12, will be held in Cairns, Australia in 2008. The society enjoys close collaborations with other key scientific organizations, and has established effective scientific interactions in all geographical regions through a network of scientific leaders who serve as ISME National Ambassadors.

In May 2007 the International Society for Microbial Ecology (ISME) and Nature Publishing Group (NPG) launched a brand new publication: The ISME Journal.
