Inspiration Corporation

Inspiration Corporation is a Chicago-based not-for-profit organization serving individuals affected by homelessness and poverty.[1] Inspiration Corporation is made up of 4 main programs, which are Inspiration Cafe, The Living Room Cafe, The Employment Project and Cafe Too. Together the programs provide supportive services (case management), scattered site housing, employment training and culinary skills training.

Inspiration Corporation's mission statement:
In an atmosphere of dignity and respect, Inspiration Corporation helps people who are affected by homelessness and poverty to improve their lives and increase self-sufficiency through the provision of social services, employment training and housing.[2]

[edit] Inspiration Cafe
Inspiration Cafe is a 'restaurant' for the homeless located in the Uptown neighborhood on the north side of Chicago. Meals are served 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and are cooked and served by volunteers. Program participants (who are referred to as guests) are able to attend meals at the Cafe as well as access case management services. A guest graduates when they receive stable housing and stable income.[3]
[edit] The Living Room Cafe
The Living Room Cafe is a 'restaurant' for the homeless located in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the south side of Chicago. Meals are served 4 or 5 days a week, 52 weeks a year, and are cooked and served by volunteers. Program participants are able to attend meals at the Cafe as well as access case management services. A guest graduates when they receive stable housing and stable income.[4]

Inspiration Corporation leases 207 units of scattered-site, subsidized housing for people affected by homelessness.[5] 160 units are provided through the Chicago Low-Income Housing Trust Fund, with which Inspiration Corporation is a partnering agency.[6]

[edit] The Employment Project
The Employment Project provides employment preparation, career counseling, free voice mail and job placement to homeless Chicagoans.[7]
[edit] Cafe Too
Cafe Too is a culinary skills training program and restaurant. The training program consists of 4 weeks of culinary education and a 9 week internship at Cafe Too restaurant. Students learn technical culinary skills as well as sanitation information. After students graduate, they work with staff to gain employment. Cafe Too restaurant is open to the public and serves American contemporary cuisine while providing experience to students.[8]
[edit] Community Voice Mail
Community Voice Mail provides a personalized voice mail box and a free message retrieval system to phoneless Chicagoans. The program provides participants with a phone number that can be used on job and housing application.[9]
