Ingalik is a pejorative Yup'ik term used for the Deg Hit’an people, with whom they were warring at the time.

Originally, the native corporation was officially named Ingalik Inc. by Kenneth Chase, unintentionally upsetting the other members. It is unknown why he chose this, however it was later changed to the native Deg Xinag language name Deloy Ges Inc.

McGrath Ingalik refers to Kolchan, another Central Alaskan Athabascan language.
