Template talk:Infobox Prefecture Japan

[edit] recent changes

The changes made as this version of the template break the articles about every prefecture in Japan (not just Tokyo). Changes to widely used templates should be made in a test area before making them on the live version. Changes of this magnitude need to have consensus as well (more than just one person's opinion about the change). -- Rick Block (talk) 18:51, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

The user in question is Cosc, who has already been blocked for this sort of thing, and has had several of his own template attempts deleted, one speedied yesterday. It doesn't appear that this user is interested in anything remotely resembling constructive collaboration. Tarc 18:57, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

You are only dissatisfied with the change of the template that confidence made. You are egocentric. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cosc (talkcontribs) 19:13, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] why not include major transport links?

It would be useful information. 68.36.214.143 19:03, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Area rank

In response to the comment "In the infobox, after the area of Tokyo is an additional value in parenthesis (45th) which does not have an explanation. It would be helpful if this were fixed. Legioss (talk) 00:16, 15 March 2008 (UTC)" at Talk:Tokyo I added "Rank among prefectures" to explain the number. It looks ok in the prefectures I looked at. Improvements welcome. The "Area" label is linked to List of Japanese prefectures ranked by area (like the Population label). An alternative would be to link the ordinal number rather than the label. -- Rick Block (talk) 01:44, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
Which would you prefer? I have difficulty deciding when to rely on users to see that text is blue (indicating a link) and when to include words. Fg2 (talk) 01:57, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
How about making the label "Area (rank)", which sort of does both? The general advice at Wikipedia:Manual of Style (links) is to not link in mysterious ways and to remember that a printed copy won't have any links. I think this would argue against linking the number. -- Rick Block (talk) 02:41, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
That sounds like a good idea. You could also move the word "Area" in the link, "Area (rank}." Either would work fine by me. Fg2 (talk) 02:59, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
