Indian states ranking by fertility rate

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a list of the States of India ranked in order of number of children born for each woman . Based on this study, seven Indian states including Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Punjab and Sikkim do not contribute anymore to the population explosion of India. In fact, the population of Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Tamil Nadu, Himachal Pradesh and Kerala is likely to decline in the following decades if the same trend continues. Interestingly, all the four South Indian states Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka registered a very low birth rate all below the crucial 2 except Karnataka which made 2.1. This information was compiled from NFHS-3. National Family health survey (NFHS) is a large-scale, multi round survey conducted by the International Institute of Population Sciences (IIPS), Mumbai designated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), Government of India. NFHS-3 was released on 11 Oct 2007 and the detailed survey can be viewed in the following website[1]
