In the Fur

In the Fur is a Pop/Alternative Indie Rock band from the Philadelphia area. It consists currently of:

  • Randy Goodman
  • Chris Norris
    • Vocals (sometimes lead, but mostly backup)
    • Guitar
  • James Billington
  • Dave Woodman and Daniel Miller, who are not official members of the band, stand in on
    • electric bass.
      • The bass players of the band have been compared to the drummers in Spinaltap – though the reasons the bassman is absent are somewhat less dramatic.

In the Fur released their first CD, "'Magnificent Designs'," in the U.S. on September 9, 2006. It has been picked up by U.K. label Glasstone Records and will have its' official European release on November 26th, 2007.

Founded in 2004, In the Fur has played Philadelphia area venues, including the Trocadero Theater, the Grape Street, The Khyber, and more. Originally containing ? members, (Randy, James, ?????) adding Chris when his talent was discovered, and ??????? dropped out.

The principle front man and writer for In the Fur, his imposing, glamorous, beanstock presence on the stage makes for a perfect mouthpiece for In the Fur. Ray Davies and David Bowie influences can be heard in his voice. His voice has also has been compared to that of David Byrne of the Talking Heads.

In concert, Randy usually plays a gold-topped Gibson guitar Les Paul.

The youngest member of the band, Chris is charismatic and an excellent showman. Originally the driver of (?), they would make their way from Maryland to rehearsals. Chris is a native of Frederick, Maryland.

In concert, Chris's instrument is a left-handed, red Epiphone Dot.

Hailing from Northern California, then Texas, and residing currently in Audubon, New Jersey now, James landed with In The Fur while not really looking for another band. Considering himself more as a "band architect" than drummer, James uses his past experiences to guide the band mechanically and spiritually.

Before In the Fur, James worked in Tidewater Grain.

At this time, James works at the Cherry Hill Guitar Center's ProAudio Section.

Originally, the bass drum's head was a standard black "TAMA" head, but was later changed to reflect the band's signature "F" logo.

The design and pamphlet were undecided up until ?. Finally, a design by Ryan Ogden was chosen, with a pamphlet containing only basic information of the songs. The CD had the In the Fur “F” logo on it, in a blue scheme (as was the album's theme. Also common was the red one, used on the early In the Fur posters).

On Saturday, September 9, 2006, In the Fur performed live at the Trocadero. It was in celebration of their U.S. release of the album.

Week of October 20 - November 1, In the Fur was in England.

“The tour,” James said during a radio interview, “was completely MySpace...MySpace is awesome.”

In the Fur was accompanied by Gary Glaser on this tour. The only known pictures of him on the tour are in videos, with the exception of one of him in his underwear on the MySpace (now removed).
