[edit] Summary:
Soviet agent Eric Stavak and his men kidnapped and hidden in an unidentified subterranean shelter (chinatown district in San Francisco) two US scientists in order to know the Project 12 equations of America's most powerful weapon. During the funeral of Dororthy Scott Barlow (the mother of Dr. Webster), Cinnamon and Rollin are present and are abducted on purpose. Stavak asks Cinnamon-as-Susan Webster to call her former husband in exchange of her freedom and Rollin who memorizes the place. To stop the threat, Jim Phelps poses as Dr. Robert Webster to pretend to provide the final equation while locating the hidding place and arresting the subversive group.
[edit] Cast and details:
The Soviet leader Eric Stavak - his associate Dr. Anton Yubov and henchman Kopik, US scientists Dr. Edward Stoner and his wife Nancy, Dr. Wilson Cardel and his wife Emily are played by Albert Paulsen - Lawrence Dane and Robert Homel, John McLiam and Angela Clarke, William Sargent and Nancy Jeris--actor Paulsen is known for his part in "The Manchurian Candidate" and his many foe parts in the war series "Combat!". Jim poses as Dr. Robert Webster and carries a compass wristwatch. Cinnamon poses as Susan, the separated wife of Dr. Webster and sells her husband for $25,000+her freedom to Stavak; she poses as an Emergency Unit agent. Rollin poses as Susan Webster's friend, a gas company employee, a KGL (Fresno) radio announcer; Rollin carries a mini compass hidden in his cufflink. Willy poses as a sailor on holidays to take pictures of the chinatown district. Willy and Barney pose as San Francisco Gas Co. employees. Barney pinpoints the hidden place inside the radar-equipped van, simulates an earthquake (thanks to a sound vibration machine working on frequencies) and a gas leak. Second episode, after "The Widow", in which Cinnamon is bereaved, in which Jim gives Cinnamon a jewel for her part: a necklace, in which the IMF uses pump-action shotguns. Notice the trigger insert recycled from "The Carriers" when Stavak points his gun at Jim's face.
[edit] Review:
A classic suspense-laden episode with good production values and revivals of the story--Albert Paulsen's best part: see the memorable ending between fooled Stavak and Rollin! The is the first earthquake con of the series. There's a nice blurred low angle shot of awaking Jim in his cell surrounded by the two scientists. I love watching Cinnamon's end scene when she twists her high heel shoe!
