iModerate Research Technologies is an online market research company specializing in online interviews. What is unique about iModerate's approach is that the interviews are online, one-on-one interviews, conducted by live, professional moderators.[1] The moderators engage each respondent via an IM-like interface on a wide variety of research studies including but not limited to, ad testing, name testing, and product testing.[2] Joel Benenson, Founder of The Benenson Strategy Group in New York and a pollster for Barack Obama[3], and Carl Rossow, COO of The Benenson Strategy Group, founded iModerate in late 2004.[4] iModerate is headquartered in Denver, Colorado.[5]
iModerate offers two products: the hybrid Research>iMpact and the stand-alone Optimum!nsight. Both revolve around the live, one-on-one interview sessions and the company's patented methodology.[6] [7]:
The hybrid Research>iMpact product is designed to embed into any existing online survey. "For example, iModerate intercepts a respondent during an online quantitative study and engage them in a one-on-one qualitative session led by a professional moderator. When the computer program detects a respondent that meets certain criteria, a notification alert will appear on the moderator's screen indicating that a respondent is ready to enter the IM part of the session during which the moderator will [probe] deeper."[8]
Optimum!nsight is a stand-alone qualitative solution that allows clients to test any type of opinion evoking stimuli. It was developed to allow researchers, marketers and advertisers to garner qualitative feedback during the development phase of advertising, products and concepts. [9] This solutiuon helped Frito Lay and Decision Insight win the American Marketing Association's EXPLOR award for innovation.[10]
"iModerate has conducted research for clients in a wide variety of industries, including food/restaurant, beverage, technology, consumer packaged goods, pharmaceutical, associations, telecom, packaged goods, non-profit, internet, political, and entertainment."[11]
