[edit] ILWIS not yet GPLed
As on June 9, 2007 ILWIS is not a an open source software.
ILWIS software will be made freely available ('as-is' and free of charge) as open source software (binaries and source code) under the 52°North initiative (GPL license) as per July 1st, 2007. The current ILWIS download page (www.itc.nl/ilwis/downloads/default.asp) will be directed to a page at 52°North, which will be announced in due time.
See ITC's GIS software ILWIS migrates to open source
Things can go awry. There is the example of Interbase which was announced for open source migration. The source code was made available for download for a few days, before it became closed source again. Firebird, is the result of those few days (4 days ?) of open sourcing Interbase. See [1]and [2]for details.
The same may not repeat with ILWIS, as ITC is a far more responsible organization. But to be on the safer side please wait till 1 July, 2007 before attaching GPL tag.
