Talk:Illinois Route 38
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] "...30A became 38 because they sounded similar."
This sounds suspiciously like an urban legend, so I took out the "because they sounded similar". I'd urge editors not to put this "fact" back unless they have a non-hearsay source to back it up. ---Isaac R 01:49, 8 May 2005 (UTC)
- It may or may not be urban legend, but here's my source:
-
- "IL-38 was numbered that since it had a good sound! The route was the original US-30, also known as the Lincoln Highway west of Geneva. It became US-30-A (or Alternate US-30) after US-30 was rerouted south of the original road. After the Great Purge, the portion of US-30-A from Dixon to Bellwood became IL-38. Sound this out..." from [1]
- Whether or not it's true, from a historical perspective this makes sense. ---Rob 9 July 2005 18:01 (UTC)

- There have been similar cases elsewhere - see Talk:New Jersey State Highway 139. Maybe someone should email IDOT. --SPUI (talk) 23:54, 9 July 2005 (UTC)
