[edit] Speedy deletion of Illinois BBQ Society
A tag has been placed on Illinois BBQ Society, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read our the guidelines on spam as well as the Wikipedia:Business' FAQ for more information.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia:
- Respect intellectual property rights - do not copy and paste text or images directly from other websites.
- Maintain a neutral point of view when editing articles - this is possibly the most important Wikipedia policy.
- If you are testing, please use the Sandbox to do so.
- Do not add troublesome content to any article, such as: copyrighted text, advertising or promotional messages, and text that is not related to an article's subject. Adding such information or otherwise editing articles maliciously is considered vandalism, doing so will result your account being blocked from editing.
The Wikipedia Tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome! [edit] Illinois BBQ Society Deletion
- I saw your question at Talk:Illinois BBQ Society, and will try to answer it. However, the article seems to have already been deleted, so I cannot see it, therefore my answer will be something of an educated guess. For more specific information, you may wish to contact the administrator who deleted it at User talk:Deb, or ask at the Help desk, where an admin will more than likely come along and see your question.
One of the most common reasons a new article is deleted is because it fails to demonstrate the notability of the subject, and indeed, the deletion log shows that your article was deleted under the notability criteria for speedy deletion. The most relevant guidelines in this case would be notability of organisations which applies to both profit and non-profit orgs. Because Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, it is important that articles explain clearly why their subject is suitable for inclusion. I have had a quick Google search for the Illinois BBQ Society, and although there are many results, most of them seem to be announcements of events, rather than deeper coverage. There are no Google News results, for example. If you would like to have another go at writing an article, probably the best thing to do is find some reliable sources to verify the things you want to write about, and write a draft in your article space, perhaps at User:ILBBQS/IBBQ Society, then you can ask other editors for their opinions before moving the article to the main encyclopedia.
(Just a couple more things before I stop rambling on!) You might want to check out our guidelines on editing with a conflict of interest, and you might be interested in WikiIndex which lists lots of other Wikis where your article might find a home. If there's anything I can help you with, you can leave a message on my talk page. Thanks! --Kateshortforbob 20:39, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
