Iki Province

Iki (壱岐国 Iki no-kuni) was a province of Japan which occupied the entire area of Iki Island. It is also known as Ishu (壱州).

Iki was also known by the names of Ichiki-no-kuni (一支国) and Itai-no-kuni (一大国) during the medieval times. The Sanguo Zhi recorded that about three thousand families founded the Itai Kingdom on Iki. [1]

The province ceased to exist upon the abolition of the han system in 1872 by the Meiji Emperor. The Iki province was subsequently merged with other former provinces to form the Nagasaki prefecture.
