IDC (music)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
IDC is the DJ/recording artist from London, UK.
Real name David McCarthy, IDC received 5 star press reviews for his debut single release, likening it to the output of DFA Records.[1]
2007 saw the release of IDC's single "Stomp", which continued his run of 5 star reviews and led to him being named "the future king of electronic rock'n'roll" in International DJ Magazine,[2] and favourably compared to The Prodigy in DJ Magazine [3]. This was followed later in the year by his first UK Singles Chart entry "Akai Elvis".
DJ Magazine ran a feature on IDC saying "He makes music that sounds like a washing machine on crack - no wonder the likes of Mark Moore, Erol Alkan, Radio One's Pete Tong and XFM's John Kennedy are all over his tunes"[4] and his DJ profile continued to rise with appearances at major venues such as Together at Turnmills in London, Zouk in Singapore, Fabrik in Madrid, Ochoymedio/Elastico in Madrid and many continuing headline appearances in the 3,000 capacity main room of Razzmatazz in Barcelona.
Also in 2007, IDC's own club residency "Dirty Weekend" was featured in an undercover-filming major news expose on satellite TV channel Sky News regarding the contemporary use of laughing gas in clubs in the UK. The story went on to be picked up by UK national tabloid papers and the dance press[5].
2008 has seen the release of the single "Bolshy Beats" and his debut album "Overthrow The Boss Class" is released in July. The collection was recorded in London and Brighton, and mastered at The Soundmasters by Streaky Gee (whose credits include The Prodigy, Fatboy Slim, Death In Vegas, Groove Armada, The Stone Roses, Depeche Mode, Moby, Kasabian and Outkast).
[edit] Remixes
Many official IDC remixes for major labels such as Sony/BMG, Universal, Astralwerks and EMI have been released, working on artists as diverse as 50 Cent and Radio 4 through to cutting-edge electronic acts such as Futon and Client.
IDC's illicit bootleg productions have received radio airplay around the world, and IDC was one of the main contributors to the MTV weekly show for MTVNE. His productions included the only official Outkast mash-up, "Hey Mug", which mixed Hey Ya with English band The Streets and was cleared for use by Andre 3000 himself.[6]
