Created in 1905 by the University of Nancy and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Meurthe-et-Moselle, the Commercial Institute of Nancy becomes in 2002 Groupe ICN École of management (ICN Graduate Business School), private higher educational establishment, recognized by the State, attached by decree to the University Nancy 2.

ICN is one of the founder members of the contest ECRICOME, which it created in partnership with the EDHEC,the ESC Reims and the ESC Rouen in 1987. After the EDHEC left the contest, other schools joined there, such asthe ESC Toulouse, Euromed Marseille École of Management, the ESC Bordeaux and the ESCEM by doing one of the most prestigious contests in France.

In 2011, ICN will open the doors of its new campus of 10 hectares in the heart of Nancy containing the schools of the Mines (Nancy) and the Art schools (Nancy). It acts at the present time of the largest university project of France (see section ARTEM).

With the general direction, Stéphane BOITEUX succeeds Thomas FROEHLICHER in 2006.

ICN is also an active network of 8127 graduates throughout the world.

In September 2007, the ICN entered the famous classification of the schools of management of Financial Times[1], which carries out a classification on whole of the European territory. ICN Business School takes down the 32nd^[1] position of European business schools and the 12th position for the French schools. It is the international mobility of the students (6th European place), the progression of career (8th European place) and the professional insertion (10th European place), which make it possible to propel the Large Commercial school of Nancy on this level.

Moreover, ICN Business School remains very recognized for the quality of its teaching, in particular in the professional environments, since it was classified 10th by a jury of 200 Directors of recruitment for the "Nouvel Economiste"^[2] (all commercial schools and faculties of éco-management) of 2007.

Thanks to the very new arrival of the TGV Is in 2007, Paris and Nancy are connected in 1h30.
