The significance of a standard on display metrology is to avoid fooling of the customer by exagerated or meaningless numbers that suggest a prime technical performance (specsmanship) which is actually not provided.

The measurement procedures and the route to evaluation of significant product performance specifications has to be standardized to make the numbers in datasheets meaningful and comparable.

Such a standard also has to define a conclusive terminology in order to provide a basis for unambiguous communication.

The first standard for electronic displays with a global impact has been ISO 13406-2:2001: Ergonomic requirements for work with visual displays based on flat panels -- Part 2: Ergonomic requirements for flat panel displays. The "flat panel displays" commercially available at that time were liquid crystal displays used mainly for computer monitors.

BTW, there are other conferences named ICDM, e.g. the Int. Conf. on Data Mining.—Jérôme (talk) 12:52, 15 January 2008 (UTC)
