Ian McFarlane is an Australian music journalist.
McFarlane is the author of the renowned Encyclopedia of Australian Rock and Pop (Allen & Unwin, 1999; hardback ISBN 1-86508-072-1, softback ISBN 1-86448-768-2 ). During the late 1980s - early 1990s he was a writer with Sydney music magazine Hot Metal and later worked for Roadrunner Records (Australia). He edits the fanzine Prehistoric Sounds, about Australian music of the 1970s and 1980s.
