Iain Cuthbertson

Iain Cuthbertson is a distinguished Scottish character actor born 4 January 1930 in Glasgow. At 6' 4" he has a tall and imposing build. He has married twice, to the actress Anne Kristen (deceased) and thereafter to Mary Cuthbertson.

His most memorable television role was as the criminal and businessman Charlie Endell in both Budgie with Adam Faith (1970) and its sequel Charles Endell, Esq (1979).

Other roles include the lead in The Borderers (1968), The Stone Tape (1972), Tom Brown's Schooldays (1972) (as Thomas Arnold), Sutherland's Law (1973),Children of the Stones (1977) Danger UXB (1979), and the villainous Scunner Campbell in Supergran (1985). Minor parts in ongoing series include appearances in Z Cars, The Avengers, Inspector Morse, Bulman, Ripping Yarns, The Duchess of Duke Street, Adam Adamant Lives! and Garron in the Doctor Who story The Ribos Operation.

In film, he appeared as Charles Waterbury in The Railway Children.

Iain Cuthbertson also has a significant stage career, and he directed at the Royal Court Theatre in 1966.

He also served, from 1975 to 1978, as Rector of the University of Aberdeen.
