I Dig Rock and Roll Music

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"I Dig Rock and Roll Music" is a song recorded by the folk group Peter, Paul and Mary. The writing credits are given as Stookey-Mason-Dixon. Stookey is the "Paul" of Peter, Paul and Mary. "Mason" is musician and producer Jim Mason. "Dixon" is Dave Dixon.

The song first appeared on the group's 1967 collection called Album 1700, and has appeared on restrospective collections since then. The song makes fun of the presumably shallow lyrics of rock and roll, as compared with the presumed social consciousness of folk music. It "dates" itself by explicitly naming (and also mocking the styles) of several 1960s artists: The Mamas & the Papas, Donovan and The Beatles.
