I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen is a popular song written by Thomas P. Westendorf in 1875. In spite of its American origins, it is known and revered as an Irish ballad.

While many people believe this song is of Irish origin, it is, in fact, not. Westendorf, a school teacher in Plainfield Indiana, wrote it for his wife (who was, however, named Jennie). It's in the form of an "answer" to a popular ballad of the time, "Barney, Take Me Home Again."
This song was sung by Kevin Riley, and later Moody, two extras on Star Trek, in the episode "The Naked Time."
It also featured in an episode of the BBC comedy The Royle Family, where a rather drunk Joe Carroll suddenly breaks into song.
It is also featured in the film Pollyanna (1960).
The tune is given an excellent choral rendition in the 1947 film Magic Town when sung as the high school song by the townsfolk.
It also features prominently in the soundtrack of John Ford's "Rio Grande" with John Wayne and Maureen O"Hara. This version is sung by "The Sons of the Pioneers".
