"I'll Be" is a song written and sung by American Alt-Rock singer/guitarist, Edwin McCain. The song was released as the first and only single from his second album Misguided Roses, although the album version differs from the version played on the radio. McCain recorded an acoustic version of the song for his follow-up album, Messenger.

This song has been one of the most frequently covered songs on American Idol.

It was covered by Dean Geyer on his debut CD Rush.

[edit] Chart performance

"I'll Be" ended up being a success for McCain in the United States, peaking at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. While it was only his second single to chart, it became his first and only Top 10 hit and his biggest hit to date. The song contains sample of "I'll Be Good" by Rene & Angela.

[edit] Appearances on movie and television soundtracks

"I'll Be" was featured on A Cinderella Story: Original Soundtrack, music from the 2004 movie starring Hilary Duff and Chad Michael Murray and Family Man starring Nicolas Cage.

"I'll Be" was notably featured on the first season finale of the show Dawson's Creek in 1998.
