HYRAT is short for HYdraulic Ram Air Turbine.
In airplanes, a Ram Air Turbine is a small turbine that extends into the air stream to power essential services. A HYRAT is Ram Air Turbine that is connected to a small hydraulic pump. This pump is enough to power the flying controls in case of a serious failure of the normal hydraulic supply.
