Talk:Hypnopompic

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

To anyone who may be able to help:

I have epilepsy. I was diagnosed about 15 years ago but my seizures have increased over the pas couple years.

Every single seizure that I have had has occured with 30-45 minutes after I wake up.

I am wondering if that qualifies as the "hypnoppompic" period of waking.

Does anyone know? Could that mental state cause my seizures?

Thanks for your help! Casey

Seizures have little, if nothing, to do with a hypnopompic period, especially if it's as long as 30-45 minutes after you wake up. A hypnopompic state occurs at the point between sleep and waking up (not after waking up), where someone blends the dream world with reality. This is what can cause the very vivid hallucinations. If the seizures happened as you were trying to wake up, it would be possible, but since they're happening so long afterward, it's just not the case. I've answered your question, even though I probably shouldn't have. For future reference though, discussion about the topic or medical advice does not belong on talk pages. The only thing that should be here is discussion specifically about the article. --74.137.224.33 (talk) 16:35, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
