Hydroxymethylbilane, also known as preuroporphyrinogen, is a molecule involved in the metabolism of porphyrin. In the third step, it is generated by the enzyme porphobilinogen deaminase , and in the next step the enzyme uroporphyrinogen III synthase converts it into uroporphyrinogen III.
