Major General Hussein Shuqul or (Af Soomaali: Xuseen Shuqul) was the head of the Jaalle Siyaad National Military College in Somalia.

Shuqul graduated from one of the oldest high schools in Mogadishu Allaahi Secondary School, where the language of instruction was Arabic. Graduates from this school often pursued further studies throughout the Middle East, at colleges and universities where the instructional language was in Arabic.

After graduation, Jaalle Hussein Shuqul enlisted in the Somali National Army, in which he quickly rose in rank. In the early 1960s, Hussein was among the military personnel who were sent for studies at the military academy in Cairo, Egypt. Shuqul's major field of study at the military academy was Artillery Specialist. The academy's graduates became Second Lieutenants (xidigle).

Upon his return from Egypt, Shuqul was appointed at the command of a Balad-based Army's Artillery Battalion. This appointment lasted from early 1970 until 1974. He was later transferred to southwestern regions including Gedo, Bay and Bakool. He was responsible for various army bases such as Malkaari, Lugh and Doolow. In 1975, Shuqul became army captain.

During the Ogaden War, Shuqul was assigned to train Somali-allied militias based in Negayle and surrounding areas.

Other posts which Shuqul held included brigade (Taliye Gaas) commander at army centers in Bakool region, as well as in Buroa in the Togdheer region.

After Shuqul became a full colonel in the early 1980s, he went to Iraq War College for two more years of study. Following his return to Somalia, Colonel Shuqul was named Sector Commander at Garowe in Nugal Region. Shortly afterwards, Shuqul became a Brigadier General (Sereeye Guuto).

As a general, Shuqul held three positions within the army establishment. These included his tenure at Garowe, serving as the head of the Military College, and Second Chief of Staff of the Military (Taliye Kuxigeenka Labaad ee Xooga Dalka).

As a military officer, Shuqul was a strict person who followed the rule to the last detail while providing everyone with full respect. Friends and colleagues nicknamed him General Sports.

Shuqul received enormous respect from those who have known his family history dating back to three generations. His grandfather Abdulle Gaab, was a well-known military personality in central and southwestern Somalia.
