Hurd (Mongolian: Хурд/khurd, "speed") is a Mongolian heavy metal band. Their music, which often features nationalist themes, is especially popular with people in rural areas, as well as Mongolian migrant workers in South Korea.[1] Their music employs pentatonic scales and Mongolian traditional melody types.[citation needed] They are popular in China's Inner Mongolia province as well as their native country, to the extent that their sales figures for tapes and CDs are higher there than at home. When they first tried to enter into the Chinese market, they faced various problems; officials asked them to translate their lyrics from Mongolian into Chinese, and then banned some of them.[2]

The band toured several times in Inner Mongolia. They also had a concert in New York City in March 2007[3] and at least one in Germany, in August 2007.[4]
