The Huntsville Blast competed for one season in the ECHL: 1993-1994. Previous franchise identities included:
- Virginia Lancers
- Roanoke Valley Rebels
- Roanoke Valley Rampage
The team would move to Tallahassee and become the Tiger Sharks for 1994-1995. Later the franchise would be called the Macon Whoopee and the Lexington Men O' War.
As of February 2008, the Blast moniker has been adopted by the women's only hockey league/team in Huntsville.
