Huntingdon Area School District

The Huntingdon Area School District is a large rural public school district based in the borough of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. The school district includes all of Huntingdon borough, Brady Township, Smithfield Township, Henderson Township, Juniata Township, Walker Township, Oneida Township, Penn Township, Marklesburg borough, Jackson Township, Mill Creek borough, Miller Township, and Lincoln Township. The school's mascot is the bearcat. The school's official colors are red, white, and blue. The school's superintendent is Ms. Jill Adams; the school's assistant superintendent is Dr. Port Williams.

The Huntingdon Area School District is comprised of one high school, one middle school, four elementary schools, and one career and technology center, used by every school district in Huntingdon County. The district administrative office is located on 2400 Cassady Ave., Suite 2, Huntingdon, PA 16652.

  • Huntingdon Area High School- Huntingdon borough- Grades 9-12- 785 students [1] (serves all municipalities in school district)

This school opened in 1958 and just underwent a major renovation and addition, which was completed in 2004.

  • Huntingdon Area Middle School- Huntingdon borough- Grades 6-8- 542 students [2] (serves all municipalities in school district)

This school opened in 1971 [3] and has never underwent a major renovation. This school houses the district's swimming pool.

  • Brady-Henderson-Mill Creek Elementary- Mill Creek borough- Grades K-5- 124 students [4] (serves Brady Township, Henderson Township, and Mill Creek borough)
  • Jackson-Miller Elementary- Jackson Township- Grades K-5- 67 students [5] (serves Jackson Township and Miller Township)
  • Southside Elementary- Walker Township- Grades K-5- 335 students [6] (serves Smithfield Township, Walker Township, Juniata Township, Penn Township, Lincoln Township, and Marklesburg borough)

This school opened in 1997 to combine Smithfield Elementary, formerly located in Smithfield Township, and Woodcock Valley Elementary, formerly located in Walker Township.

  • Standing Stone Elementary- Huntingdon borough- Grades K-5- 434 students [7] (serves Oneida Township and Huntingdon borough)

This school opened in 1999 to combine Alfarata Elementary and William Smith Elementary, both formerly located in Huntingdon borough.

The high school has a long history of athletics. One of the school's most well known sports team is its football team, which has enjoyed much success over the years. Other school sports include basketball, swimming, baseball, softball, field hockey, volleyball, soccer, wrestling, tennis, track & field, and golf.

This field is located in downtown Huntingdon. It is the home of the Huntingdon Bearcats football team.

There are 2,287 students currently enrolled in the school district. The majority race of the student body is white, Non-Hispanic. Almost all students speak English at home.
