The results of the Hungarian parliamentary election of 1998 are as follows:
The election was a significant defeat for the governing Socialist Party and their coalition allies , the Alliance of Free Democrats and a narrow surprise victory for Viktor Orbán's right-wing Fidesz.The successful breakthrough into parliament by the extreme right-wing Hungarian Justice and Life Party was also a major shock. After the election, Fidesz formed a coalition government the Independent Smallholders Party and Hungarian Democratic Forum.

This far the 1998 elections are considered the aligning elections of Hungary. The voting patterns of this election remained largely the same for the next two elections, marking the stabilization of Hungarian party system as well as party loyalties of voters.
