Hi Humanist, I have a small tip for you regarding talk pages. On most talk pages you may see, the horizontal rules are used to seperate different conversations altogether, not different responses, where a simple line/paragraph break and an indent usually suffices. You can sign your responses and such using 4 tildes: ~~~~, which automatically places a link to your user page and the date and time as well. Thanks :) Dysprosia 00:53, 10 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Yes, I can understand your comment. Unfortunately I have a strong tendency to write iteratively, with many changes over time. It would be a change of style to write in nice complete blocks, and certainly take me more effort. (I do this as a relaxation.)
I will try to use the preview function more, although I am also an inveterate "saver" of documents, in order not to lose anything written so far. This has become even more ingrained in my wikipedia writing after quite early on losing longer edits due to parallel editing by others.
How detrimental is my hit-and-run style? Is it just cosmetic, or does it cause real problems?

It does result in your user name dominating the page history of whatever you are working on. Just use a good text editor to edit in. I use KWord and I save all my edits to a file named "temp.kwd". When I'm done editing I simply copy the text I was working on and put it into Wikipedia. If something then goes wrong with Wikipedia or my browser crashes then all I do is copy the text again. Then for the next article I do the same thing (using temp.kwd - overwriting my previous text). --mav 04:05, 15 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Hey! It's good to finally see someone else from Perth on here. I've been editing Wikipedia on-and-off for between one and two years. I really can't remember how long. But on my preferences page it says my user ID number is 120 or something like that. I doubt I joined that early on. Strange.

Anyway, I hope you find Wikipedia rewarding. I tend to get the inspriation and time to have short bursts at it, but lose interest really quickly.

It'd be good if you could contribute to Perth, Western Australia. I really want it to be better than the pages for all the other Australian capitals. :)

Hi Mark!
That is an impressive ID number. I think mine is 29,700.
I started writing a short time ago on Wikipedia because of a page I happened to find when I was searching through Google. I did have a look at the Perth, WA page with the intention that if it needed some work I would move it along. I fact, I decided it was already pretty good. The aerial photo is a nice touch.
If I can find some bits to add, I will.
