[edit] Northern Ireland Use

At the time of the start of 'The Troubles' (c1969/70) the standard APC in use with the British Army was the FV432, but it was regarded as politically 'unacceptable' to use these in NI, as, being tracked, it was thought that the press and other media would undoubtedly have referred-to them as 'tanks', e.g., 'Tanks on the Streets of Northern Ireland...', so it was made a matter of policy that only wheeled AFVs would be deployed - hence the use of the obsolete wheeled Pigs and Saracens.
