Now why is it that Armenia is considerd "partly free" and democratic, and Russia, WHO'S HUMAN RIGHTS RECORD IS NO MORE SERVERE THAN ARMENIA'S, is considered a Dictatorship?! This proves the western media's anti-Russian bias...QZXA2 21:13, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- Freedom House lists Armenia as being "partly free" in its most recent 2006 annual report. Freedom House uses its own criteria to assess the relative freedom in a country, so I suggest you look at their site to see their reasoning. In neither this article nor the article on Human rights in Russia is Russia called a dictatorship. -- Augustgrahl 22:44, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
I did read the 2006 report on Russia, and I found that their excuses for listing Russia as "not free" were no more severe than the situation in Armenia. I didn't say this article or the Human rights in Russia page said Russia is a dictatorship (although the latter strongly hints it), but Freedom House says Russia is "no longer a democracy", which means it would be a dictatorship, Adam Carr belives them and says that Russia is "in theory a democracy, but in practice a 'de facto' dictatorship on his website, and many people on the talk pages of Russian related topics say that Putin is a dictator. the point of my ststement was that I feel that human rights groups are reluctant to accept the fact that Russia is a partly free democracy even though they consider other countries with human rights records the same as, or even a tiny bit worse than Russia's, partly free democracies. - It's a point that you'd have to take up with whatever groups are making these judgments. I honestly don't know enough about the political system in Russia to classify it and compare it with those of other former Soviet states. -- Augustgrahl 01:17, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
Unfortionantly you may never find a good source about Russia's political system, because almost every website and book about Russia seems to have a bias against it, if this conversation is to continue, it should be on my user talk because this page is supposed to be used for discussing the article. [edit] Expansion needed!
Although this article is acceptable as it is, I think it needs to be more detailed. For instance, How many times has the police broken up opposition rallies? What were the rallies named? How many people attended them? What are the suspicious deaths that the army is rumoured to be responsible for? What do they mean by abuse is common in the army? QZXA2 22:05, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
