The Human Defense Corps is fictional organization that appeared in their own six-issue comic book miniseries, written by Ty Templeton and published in the second half of 2003.
[edit] Fictional biography
In the DC Comics universe, the Human Defense Corps is a branch of the military introduced by President Lex Luthor to reduce government dependency on superhumans when a major crisis breaks out. Past Corps missions have involved vampires and a mole-like race of underground people called the Acorti. This was a long, drawn-out war as the Acorti were threatening London, England.
The corps has bases all over Earth, including below the sea and in space. The sea-base included a sentient gorilla, from 'Gorilla City' and extensive alien beings kept in tubes. One such was a female Daxamite.
Several of the Corps members note that while they are fighting threats to human life, they don't seem to actually fight aliens, which was the organization's original purpose.
One of the supporting characters is Little Sure Shot from Sgt. Rock's Easy Company. It is the seeming recovery of his grandson and sixty-five other lost Corps members that leads to the Corps' invasion of the afterlife (and the incidental squashing of Charon).
