Hugo Burge, a British businessman, has been the CEO of Cheapflights.(Born 6th April 1972)
He was educated at Bedales School, followed by Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge where he was a College Exhibitioner and graduated with a degree in Geography (MA). After University he qualified as a Company Secretary (ICSA) and spent 4 years in property investment . Hugo remains a director of a collection of UK property companies.
In March 2000, Hugo led an offer to purchase Cheapflights from the Founder, John Hatt. This offer was merged with the consortia associated with David Soskin to jointly buy Cheapflights Hugo held a number of roles in Cheapflights from March 2000 onwards including Chief Operating Officer, President USA and finally Vice-Chairman where he represents the lead investor. In 2003 he moved to Boston, MA USA to found the Cheapflights' US website, Cheapflights.com. Despite being launched on a shoestring, Cheapflights.com has proved to be a commercial success and possibly one of the only UK websites to be successful in the United States.
In January 2007 he co-launched HOWZAT media LLP with fellow entrepreneur David Soskin, a US$10 million investment fund for start-up and early stage internet media companies. Hugo is an active participant in the London internet industry and a regular speaker at internet and travel events. He is on EyeForTravel's Panel of Advisors (2007).
Through his HOWZAT investment, Hugo is a director of investee companies Zoomf.com, a property vertical search dotcom and TrustedPlaces a reviews website for places to eat, drink and visit. He is an investor in the leading travel social networking site Where Are You Now - WAYN (WAYN.com) as well as being on their Panel of Advisors. Most recently he has launched hereorthere.com a site for sharing travel experience and offering travel inspiration.
Hugo is grandson of the notable London Barrister James Burge Q.C. who defended Stephen Ward in the then notorious "Profumo Affair".
Hugo is a member of the Royal Geographical Society.
