Hridayananda dasa Goswami (b. November 5, 1948), born Howard J. Resnick, is a spiritual leader of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness.[1]

He was initiated in Los Angeles, California, on February 8, 1970 as a disciple of Srila Prabhupada. In 1972, he accepted the renounced order of life (sannyasa)[2], and in 1974 he was named a member of the Governing Body Commission with responsibility for overseeing the Krishna Consciousness Movement in Latin America.[3]

"Srila Prabhupada appointed Hrdayananda Goswami the Governing Body Commissioner for all of Latin America, and from that point the Krsna consciousness movement in Latin America began rapidly expanding. Prabhupada wrote to his newly appointed G.B.C. secretary:

Just as Hansadutta and Bhagavan have gone to foreign countries and arranged for a solid program of translation, printing and distribution of my books by sankirtan party, so you will also find the devotees in South America willing to help you in this noble project which is for the benediction of the suffering humanity."[4]

Before his death in November of 1977, Srila Prabhupada asked Hridayananda das Goswami, as well as ten other prominent disciples, to initiate disciples within ISKCON in order to give continuity to the disciplic succession starting with Krishna. He was also asked to complete Srila Prabhupada’s translation and commentary of the Srimad Bhagavatam[5], an important classic of Vedic literature. Since the completing of this work, his literary project [6] has since been the adaptation of the famous Indian epic, the Mahabharata[7][8], into a historical novel. He has also been awarded a Ph.D. from Harvard University[9], and has written many theological articles to date.
